Trio head departures

Trio head departures

Dundee United have announced their retained list with Gavin Gunning, Morgaro Gomis and Mark Millar leading the exodus from Tannadice.

Defender Gunning, 23, has already been linked with both Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday and hasn't been offered new terms according to the club.

Meanwhile, Senegal international Gomis, 28, was in his second spell after rejoining from Birmingham City and fellow midfielder Millar, 26, spent most of last season on loan at Falkirk.

Strikers Dale Hilson and Farid El Alagui are similarly departing along with under-20 squad members Jordan Allan, Ross Gilmour, Luke Johnston, Mark Russell and Phil Anderson.

Elsewhere, Harry Souttar, Jamie Robson, Matthew Smith, Greig McNaughton, Ryan Booth, Scott Allardyce, Ali Coote and Rafa Malaga have agreed professional contracts, while Ola Adeyemo and Aaron Duke should also sign professional terms subject to international clearance.

Manager Ray McKinnon was pleased to get through against Queen of the South but not particularly happy with the second-half performance.

Queen of the South 2 Dundee United 3

Dundee United took command of their Challenge Cup semi-final with three first-half goals before hosts Queen of the South staged a late rally.

Charlie Telfer and Scott Fraser both netted inside eleven minutes for the visitors and on loan forward Tony Andreu then added a delightful third.

Stephen Dobbie managed a reply early in the second period and Derek Lyle grabbed another during injury-time - but it's United meeting either St Mirren or The New Saints in the final.
