Rangers back in for defender

Rangers are back in the race for Dundee United defender Gavin Gunning.

It follows a planned move for the 23-year-old centre-back to Sheffield Wednesday falling through last week.

Gunning travelled to Hillsborough for a medical but a subsequent problem meant that no deal was completed.

That has seen Ally McCoist's side moving back to the head of the queue and talks have already taken place between both parties.

Elsewhere, former United and St Johnstone midfielder David Robertson has joined Championship outfit Livingston.
