Debut in defeat

New striker Mario Bilate made his debut but couldn't prevent Dundee United from losing their latest run-out 2-1 to FC Utrecht.

The 23-year-old came off the bench to replace Nadir Ciftci despite clearly being short of match fitness.

Following a scoreless opening half during which their Dutch opponents had most of the play, United conceded twice early in the second period through goals from Toornstra and De Kogel.

Newcomer Bilate was introduced into the action with eighteen minutes remaining, although it was fellow replacement Brian Graham grabbing a late consolation from recent signing Charlie Telfer's inviting pass.

Dundee United: Cierzniak, Spittal (Smith 82), Dillon, Morris, Robertson, Paton, Rankin (Fraser 82), Armstrong (Bilate 72), Dow (Erskine 72), Mackay-Steven (Telfer 61), Ciftci (Graham 72)

subs (unused): McCallum, Petrie
