Delight for goalscorer

Delight for goalscorer

Dundee United striker Nadir Ciftci was delighted that Chris Erskine came up with the late winner against Ross County.

The 27-year-old midfielder has experienced a difficult time since arriving from Partick Thistle and was even sent back there on loan last season.

But appearing as a late substitute at the weekend, Erskine proceeded to fire the hosts to a 2-1 victory over the Staggies. Ciftci had earlier put his side in front with his first goal of the campaign.

"It doesn't really matter who scores but yes I am delighted," he told the Dundee Courier. "I am also happy for Chris. Since he has been back in pre-season he has been working really hard in training and the games he has taken part in.

"He did well at Aberdeen and he has scored again," Ciftci added. "I am delighted for him as he is a really good guy."

Boss pleased to get through

Manager Ray McKinnon was pleased to get through against Queen of the South but not particularly happy with the second-half performance.

Queen of the South 2 Dundee United 3

Dundee United took command of their Challenge Cup semi-final with three first-half goals before hosts Queen of the South staged a late rally.

Charlie Telfer and Scott Fraser both netted inside eleven minutes for the visitors and on loan forward Tony Andreu then added a delightful third.

Stephen Dobbie managed a reply early in the second period and Derek Lyle grabbed another during injury-time - but it's United meeting either St Mirren or The New Saints in the final.
