Champions opportunity for midfielder

Former Dundee United midfielder Ryan Gauld has been included in Sporting Lisbon's Champions League squad.

The highly-rated eighteen-year-old has been named in their 25-man pool and could face Chelsea in the competition.

Gauld completed a 3m summer move on a six-year contract and appeared set for a spell in Sporting's second-string team.

But UEFA have confirmed his inclusion at senior level as the Portuguese prepare to also face Germany's Schalke and Slovenia's Maribor - the recent conquerors of Celtic.
