Dundee United Warn Fans About Scam

Dundee United have released a statement the official club website regarding the email scam which we warned you about yesterday.

An email is being sent out to Dundee United supporters, which claims to be from the club and it 'congratulates' you on winning a prize in the clubs automated email lottery.

At first the email might appear genuine, since it uses official logos and photographs of the chairman Eddie Thompson, but it asks you to reply with personal information to an email address which is not owned by Dundee United FC.

The club's official domain is www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk, but the scammers are using a very similar domain (www.dundeeunitedfc.com) to fool unsuspecting supporters into sending them sensitive information, which they could possibly use to commit identity theft.

The emails may also contain a virus, which can use your own email address book to replicate itself and send further copies on to friends & family - which is why everyone should check they have up-to-date virus software, just incase they also receive one of these emails.

The official website released this statement earlier this morning.

"It has been brought to our attention that there has been an attempted email 'scam` purporting to emanate from Dundee United Football Club and relating to the Club Lottery,"

"We can confirm no such email has been sent by the Club, it is entirely bogus and relates in no way whatsoever to Dundee United FC. Anyone receiving this email should delete it immediately."
