Craig Levein understands Collin Samuel`s disappointment at being substituted only minutes after scoring against Motherwell, but he`s happy the Trinidadian understands his reasons.
Samuel's left foot volley put United 1-0 infront after 29minutes at Fir Park, but Christian Kalvenes was sent off just moments later for a 2nd bookable offence.
Craig Levein had to reshuffle the team and bring on another defender to strengthen his defence, which meant Samuel was substituted for Steven Robb in the 35th minute.
"I did feel sorry for him that he had to sacrifice himself for the team," said Levein.
"We had to take Collin off and that must have been frustrating for him, but he accepted the decision and did not throw the toys out of the pram."
"He had to come off to change the makeup of the team, but I'm pleased that he was pleased for everybody else. He was just as delighted as anyone at the end of the game and that is the kind of reactions I like to see from players."
Even without Collin Samuel on the park, United still managed to score twice more during the match and eventually returned to Tannadice will all 3 points.
Goals from David McCracken and Noel Hunt gave Dundee United a 3-2, but even Levein was surprised by the final score-line.
He said, "I thought we had lost the three points, but strength of character is a good thing and we showed it today. We scored two goals with ten men, which is a rare occurrence."
