United Suffer For Romanov's Exploits

Dundee United FC are set to suffer for the controversial exploits of Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov, after unsold 800 tickets were returned for today`s SPL clash between the 2 sides.

Hearts supporters have turned up in large numbers at Tannadice in the past, but they are reported to be staying away from the Dundee United game in protest at the way Romanov is running their club.

The sacking of club captain and fans favourite Steven Pressley, Paul Hartley relegated to the bench for last weekends 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen and his continuous meddling in the 1st team line-up have caused outraged amongst the Hearts fans.

This week, in an open letter to the Hearts owner, the supporters accused him of turning the club into "a circus freak show" and there have been some sets of fans suggesting that staying away from Tynecastle onmass might get his attention.

It looks like it will be Dundee United who suffer financially this afternoon, with so many Jambos opting not to travel to the match.

However, with 800 tickets returned, Dundee United have announced they will now operate a cash turnstile for any fans who change their minds and do decide to travel to Dundee today - in an attempt to recoup some of the lost revenue.

Prices for away supporters are set at £24 and £25 for adults, with concessions priced at £13.

I think it's as much to do with the fact that the tickets cost £25, we're playing Hibs on Boxing day (£30+ per ticket), and it's so close to Christmas there's not a lot of money around. Fans know that if they want to hurt Romanov in the pocket they have to boycott home games (as away games give no money to the club), so I don't think this counts as a Romanov backlash.
