SPL Looks Bad For Chasing Brewster

Kilmarnock boss Jim Jefferies has admitted that 3 SPL clubs chasing a 40-year-old striker might not reflect well on the league as a whole, but it's a credit to the way Craig Brewster has looked after himself over the years.

"It is a credit to Craig that three clubs were after him. It doesn't say anything bad about Scottish football - that is the wrong way to look at it. That is a negative view," said Jim Jefferies.

Kilmarnock, Saint Mirren and Aberdeen were all hoping to sign Brewster as a player, but it was Aberdeen who won the race for the striker's signature, signing him on a short-term playing contract earlier this week.

Jefferies continued, "There is nothing wrong with the state of our game. What you should be saying is there have not been too many times a 40-year-old been chased by three SPL clubs."

"It is not as if we do go for players of his age all the time - this is just a one-off. There won't be anybody at 40 years old again who will command that sort of respect."

"I've never known that in my 20 years of being a manager. That is because Craig is an exceptional player. He has an exceptional football brain and is a fitness fanatic."

"So give Craig Brewster credit for being the player he is - there are not a lot like him going about."

"Craig was honest with me; he told me there were two or three clubs interested, but only he knows why he picked Aberdeen. We wish him all the best and now we just have to get on with it."
