United Relying Too Much On Youngster

Craig Levein is worried that Dundee United are having to rely on 17-year old David Goodwillie as cover for the injured Noel Hunt.

Hunt is out for several weeks with an ankle injury and Goodwillie was his replacement for the defeat to Hearts at the weekend.

"We can't afford to be in the position we are in, with regard to the back-up being a 17-year-old boy," said Levein.

"That's the problem, it's not like there is anybody in-between."

With the transfer window only a week away, Craig Levein will have a chance to bring in a new striker, but Untied still have Celtic(a) and Aberdeen(h) to play before that and it could be a miserable Christmas for United if they continue to struggle to find goals until then.

Barry Robson is capable of hitting the back of the net from set pieces, and Collin Samuel can take them if he's able to get forward, but Noel Hunt was United's top goalscorer with 9 goals already this season, and he wont be easily replaced.

I don't think the boss should be worried too much. Better for a youngster to get some experience under their belt than just waste away on the bench, surely?

I think the last few performances will convince a better class of player to sign than I thought we'd end up with. Not sure who, but if Craig Brewster is a player everyone chases after, then who knows...!
