Dundee Utd Sign Shelbourne Defender

Craig Levein has made his 2nd signing during the January transfer, after Dundee United agreed terms with Shelbourne for central defender Sean Dillon.

The Dublin born 23-year-old was part of the Shelbourne side which won the Eircom League Premier Division title this season and has signed for an undisclosed fee.

He can play in any position in the defence, but his favoured position is as a central defender.

Dillon joined Shelbourne in January 2006 from Longford Town, but previously played for Aston Villa.

The 6ft tall defender has also been capped for Ireland at Under 14, U16, U17, U19, U20 and Under 21 levels.

Craig Levein went on a secret scouting trip in November to watch several Shelbourne players in their final match of the season, against Bohemians.

Shelbourne striker Jason Byrne was also linked with a move to Tannadice, but Craig Levein wasn`t sure about the 28-year-old and wanted another look at him in competitive action before making a decision.

However, with the Eircom season now over until later this year, Levein has been unable to see Jason Byrne in another competitive match and he might have lost interest in the former PFAI Player Of The League.

The signing of Sean Dillon comes just 24-hours after Dundee United secured the services of French midfielder Morgaro Gomis from Cowdenbeath for a "nominal" fee.

Youngster Gregg Burnett has also signed an extension to his contract, that will keep him at the club until May this year.
