When Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura equalised for Celtic in the 2-2 Boxing Day draw against Dundee United at Parkhead, it was no surprise that many Japanese newspapers and websites reported the story.
Although, the 3-2 win over Saint Mirren in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night was also covered by some of the world's press.....including stories from sites in France, Australia, Malaysia and Qatar?
NewsNow - one of the UK's most popular news portals - regularly links to news stories about your favorite football team from sites all over the world, but Dundee United never usually get much press outside of the UK.
French based website Eurosport reported on Dundee United's "tough 3-2 victory over SPL strugglers St Mirren" on Tuesday night, even mentioning Dundee going out of the competition on penalties to Queen Of The South, after a 3-3 draw at full-time in their replay.
Australian based Fox Sports summarised the evenings Scottish Cup results, saying "David Robertson's injury-time winner saw Dundee United into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup with a 3-2 win over top-flight rival St Mirren at Tannadice today."
Whilst USA's Soccer365 website described United's win as "An amazing victory for the Tangerines, courtesy of a bouncing shot from 12 yards."
However, the most surprising place to find a match report was on the Qatar based 'Gulf Times', which described all the goals from the game, and called Dundee United's winner a "blunder in stoppage time."
In Malaysia, the star online website also used the same Reuters story as the Gulf Times, starting with "Lowly St Mirren fought back from two goals down before bowing out of their re-arranged Scottish FA Cup third round tie 3-2 at Dundee United."
The Scottish Cup has always been an important competition for Dundee United, because it's the best chance United have of picking up silverwear and getting into Europe.
However, perhaps this goes to show that the Scottish Cup isn't just an important competition in Scotland, but that its held in high regard all over the world.....including Doha, Qatar!?!!
