Ayr United v Dundee United

Ayr United v Dundee United

Promotion-hopefuls Dundee United visit bottom-of-the-table Ayr United in a 5.15pm kick-off later this afternoon.

The Tangerines' chances were boosted by their narrow midweek victory against Dunfermline Athletic at Tannadice, which lifted them into third-placed after fellow challengers Greenock Morton were simultaneously being defeated 4-1 at home by St Mirren.

Forwards Tony Andreu, Simon Murray and Thomas Mikkelsen were all expected to recover from slight knocks collected during that game.

"We have had a few players not training, Simon, Thomas and Tony the mains ones, but they will be fine," manager Ray McKinnon told the Dundee Evening Telegraph. "It's this stage of the season, playing three games in a week takes its toll on the body. They've all missed a bit of training and have been on the treatment table, but they are going to be OK.

"We always believed we were in contention for second place and the last two performances have been good," he added. "Hopefully, we can really push on now and finish the year strongly, but we're just taking things a game at a time."

The hosts are missing the suspended Paddy Boyle while Conrad Balatoni and Robbie Crawford are both out injured.
