United could approach rivals

Dundee United could attempt to take St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright to Tannadice.

The 54-year-old is on the wanted list to replace the sacked Ray McKinnon, according to the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

Wright has regularly achieved top-six finishes in the Scottish Premiership with the Perth club, while also leading them to the Scottish Cup when beating United in the final three years ago.

The Tangerines were previously linked with him after dismissing Jackie McNamara back in September 2015.

However, current favourite for the role is former Hearts supremo Casaba Laszlo, while ex-Hibs boss John Hughes has also been spoken to.

Jim McIntyre and Alan Stubbs were also strongly rumoured but neither was expected to land the post.
