Midfielder insists promotion still on

On loan midfielder Sam Stanton insists a couple of major injury setbacks won't derail Dundee United's promotion bid.

The Tangerines are reeling following Scott Fraser [fractured foot] and Fraser Fyvie [cruciate ligaments] both being ruled out for the rest of the season within days of each other.

"It is unfortunate but it is not something we can use as an excuse," Hibernian loanee Stanton told the Dundee Courier. "We have won without key players in the team before.

"I thought we were capable of winning the St Mirren game even despite the injuries so that won't be used as an excuse by us," he added.

United are currently five points off the pace in second, but with a game in hand going into today's visit of bottom club Brechin City.
