Levein Has Other Options To Consider

Dundee United manager Craig Levein might have missed out on Oldham Athletic striker Chris Porter this week, but he still has several other options to consider.

There are currently two players on trial at Tannadice, with Slovenian Jani Sturm and Ivory Coast frontman Marc-Eric Guei getting involved in pre-season training.

26-year-old Marc-Eric Guei, who has played for Chateauroux and Montpellier, joined up with the rest of the 1st team squad on Monday, but has a bit of work to do on his fitness if he wants to earn himself a permanent move to Tannadice.

"Guei has been recommended to me so I am willing to take a look at him," admitted Craig Levein to the Courier on Tuesday.

Jani Sturm was due to arrive at the weekend, but events in Glasgow meant he arrived a few days later than expected.

The 24-year-old former Leicester City target spent time on trial at Rugby Park last year, after Levein recommended the player to Jim Jeffries, but in the end the Killie manager decided not to offer Sturm a contract.

Although, after watching both the trialists in training over the last few days, Levein doesn`t appear to have made a decision on either player yet, and wants more time to consider his options.

"It`s very difficult at the moment to assess players, because we are really just doing fitness stuff," Levein told the Courier.

"In Eric`s case especially, he`s a bit behind the rest of the lads fitness-wise because he hasn`t done a lot of training recently, but that`s not something I`m overly concerned about."

"Jani and Eric are here for a couple of weeks and we`ll take all the time we have available to improve their fitness."

"We`ll also get the chance to see what they can do in a couple of bounce games we have coming up."
