Celtic Come Sniffing, As Injuries Start To Bite
Dundee United are on the brink of a serious goalkeeping crisis, after speculation that Grzegorz Szamotulski is about to sign for SPL rivals Celtic.
Hibernian, Hearts and Celtic are all rumored to be interested in the talented Pole, but the Parkhead club likely to be favorites for his signature, with Artur Boruc currently being linked with a Premiership move.
To make matter worse, manager Craig Levein has just lost Lukasz Zaluska for several more months, after the Polish keeper broke his foot again, in training earlier this week.
United have tried to sign Szamotulski on a longer term contract, but it now looks certain that the he will leave Tannadice during the January transfer window, after his short-term contract comes to an end.
"First off I have not heard anything about him moving to Celtic, but that does not mean it is not happening," admitted Levein to ArabZone.
"About two months ago we made him the best offer this club could make and he has not accepted it."
"He did tell us he would only stay until January and he has not changed his mind."
"I am now resigned to losing him."
Levein now has until January to find another goalkeeper or the club will have to rely on 3rd choice Euan McLean, though the inexperienced 21-year-old played well between the sticks in the recent 2-1 victory over Rangers at Tannadice.
"When Lukasz first broke his foot we had days to find someone else," Levein continued.
"Now we have Szamotulski and Euan McLean and I have until January to add to the squad, so we at least have a bit of time."
