Jon Daly has 2 reasons to celebrate this week, after the birth of his daughter on Wednesday, the striker`s 2nd-half goal this weekend gave Dundee United a 3rd win on the trot against Hearts.
Despite missing some glaring chances in recent weeks, manager Craig Levein has stuck by Jon Daly and was rewarded after the 50th minute goal secured an important win against the on-form Edinburgh side.
It was midfielder Craig Conway who opened the scoring with a sublime 1st-half free-kick, leaving Hearts keeper Marian Kello with no chance from 30-yards, as the ball blazed into the top-right hand corner of the net.
The goal was no more than United deserved and when Daly made it 2-0 in the 50th minute, there was only going to be one winner.
After returning from injury, fans favourite Willo Flood made space on the right for a cross, finding Daly inside the area.
The Irish striker controlled the ball with his chest, before smashing in his 1st SPL goal of the season and giving United a deserved 2-0 lead.
Hearts started to fall apart after that, with tempers getting the better as Eggert Jonsson was booked and manager Csaba Laszio brought on Ruben Palazuelos, Christian Nade and Mike Tullberg in an attempt to turn the tide in his sides favour.
The next goal was crucial for Hearts, but unfortunately for the visitors it was game, set and match when United`s Scott Robertson netted to make it 3-0.
Scott Robertson scored his 2nd goal in 5-days, after his strike against Airdrie United in the 2-0 League Cup win on Tuesday night.
After Paul Dixon had been fouled by Eggert Jonsson, Craig Conway turned provided by floating in the 60th minute free-kick and Robertson headed home.
Just when Hearts thought it couldn`t get any worse, a clumsy challenge by Jonsson on man-of-the-match Craig Conway was rewarded with a 2nd yellow card, then a red and the Jambos were reduced to 10-men.
Finally, Dundee United get their season off and running, with a much deserved win that sees the club secures a 3rd win on the trot in just 7-days.
Final score:
Dundee United 3-0 Hearts
