St Mirren 1 - Dundee United 1

St Mirren 1 Dundee United 1

Jon Daly snatched an 89th minute equaliser to rescue a late point for Dundee United in their opening game of the season at St Mirren Park.

The Arabs appeared set for an unlikely defeat until their skipper Daly turned in a cross by Morgaro Gomis, which was enough to cancel out new signing Sean Lynch's volley against the run of play sixteen minutes earlier.

Saints keeper Paul Gallacher had earlier denied his former club with a superb reaction save after Craig Conway's free-kick had been met by the forehead of Garry Kenneth midway through the opening half.

The visitors then escaped claims for a penalty after Steven Thomson's drive struck the hand of Paul Dixon before Gomis and Prince Buaben both missed the target at the opposite end.

Excellent work from Conway after the break in turn found David Goodwillie glancing a header narrowly wide and Gomis also had an attempt blocked on the line as the away side continued to have the better of it.

However, it was their opponents taking the lead on 73 minutes when Lynch despatched a glorious volley into the top corner, and that appeared set to be the decider until Daly popped up to claim a late equaliser.
