Dundee United 0 AEK Athens 1

Dundee United have much to do after falling to a single goal from Rafik Djebbour in their Europa League play-off first-leg at Tannadice.

French-born Algerian international Djebbour earned the visitors an early lead in the tie when taking advantage of Ignacio Scocco's inviting delivery on eleven minutes.

AEK could actually then have increased their supremacy with Pereira Leonardo twice going close after the break, while skipper Jon Daly couldn't convert their opponents' best opening at the opposite end.

The Arabs only really threatened from set-piece situations as their visitors took a firm hold during the opening forty-five minutes.

And they were rewarded when Djebbour made himself available at the far post to force the ball high into the net from Scocco's eleventh minute supply.

Home striker Daly headed over a David Goodwillie cross in reply and Garry Kenneth also reached a Craig Conway delivery but was similarly off-target.

A hopeful Daly then attempted a speculative half-volley from long distance and Keith Watson forced a punched clearance from AEK goalkeeper Sebastian Saja around the half-hour mark.

However, the visitors always appeared more dangerous with Grigoris Makos blazing over after being set up by Djebbour, while Leonardo's low shot called Dusan Pernis into action at his right-hand post early in the second-half.

Brazilian Leonardo also headed a Lagos assist weakly at Pernis before AEK substitute Nathan Burns almost turned in a late Scocco cross.

Even so there was still time remaining for Paul Dixon to allow Daly to slice a rare chance wide as the hosts searched for an equaliser.
