AEK Athens 1 - Dundee United 1

Attendance: 600

AEK Athens 1 Dundee United 1 (AGG: 2-1)

Substitute Jon Daly struck an equaliser with only twelve minutes remaining to cancel out former Fulham midfielder Papa Bouba Diop's header midway through the opening half as Dundee United eventually lost out on aggregate to AEK Athens.

Trailing by a single goal from the first game the Arabs really needed to score first. But those plans were soon in tatters as Diop rose unopposed to head in Pereira Leonardo corner on 23 minutes.

Argentinian Nacho Scocco had earlier driven a free-kick over after a foul by Morgaro Gomis as the visitors struggled to make much headway, with only a Craig Conway free-kick bringing goalkeeper Sebastian Saja into real action.

AEK goalscorer Diop then went close to a second just before the break when flashing a shot inches wide of Dusan Pernis' left-hand post as his side continued to remain in charge.

Arabs boss Peter Houston was forced into a change early in the second period when Danny Cadamarteri limped off with a groin problem and was replaced by David Goodwillie. He also tried to give his midfield a little additional drive by then introducing the fit-again Danny Swanson for David Robertson.

The Tangerines suddenly began to enjoy their best period of the game with Conway becoming increasingly influential. Daly was also brought on in search of an equaliser and he soon had a close-range attempt deflected over the crossbar.

And it was Daly who spread delight amongst the 600 exclusively Arabs supporters when turning in a Keith Dixon cross twelve minutes before the end. Fellow substitute Swanson then fired a late effort wide as the visitors continued to press for a crucial second during the closing moments.
