Hearts 1 Dundee United 1

Substitute Morgaro Gomis struck a superb late equaliser to rescue a point for Dundee United in a 1-1 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Arabs had appeared set for a second successive league defeat after David Templeton fired their opponents ahead on the half-hour before skipper Jon Daly's penalty was saved by Marian Kello with fifteen minutes remaining.

Both sides were forced into changes early on with Hearts' Lee Wallace pulling up during the warm-up and defender Ismael Bouzid later also required extensive treatment following a clash with Daly.

Meanwhile, United's recalled midfielder Danny Swanson suffered a hamstring problem on just four minutes and was replaced by David Robertson, who soon witnessed Kevin Kyle firing well over from outside the area after being set up by Templeton.

Adrian Mrowiec then glanced the top of Dusan Pernis' crossbar from a Craig Thomson cross before the visitors' debutant Barry Douglas launched an inviting cross into the six-yard box, but goalkeeper Kello beat Daly to the ball.

His opposite number Pernis soon had to fend off a fierce angled shot from Templeton, who then slipped his finish under the Arabs keeper to open the scoring fifteen minutes before half-time.

There was still enough time remaining in the opening period for Craig Conway to blaze over after good work from Daly as the interval was reached with the visitors still trailing.

Goalscorer Templeton had a shot deflected wide after the restart and Conway cleverly turned an opponent before sending a 20-yard effort narrowly over at the opposite end.

But the visitors missed a great chance to level on 70 minutes after an adjudged handball inside the area allowed Daly to have a rather weak penalty beaten away by Kello.

However, with five minutes remaining David Robertson's cross was only partially cleared and fellow substitute Gomis lashed a superb finish high into the net to equalise.

And it almost got even better for his side moments later when Conway had an attempt blocked by Kello to leave honours shared.
