Dundee United 3 - Aberdeen 1

Tannadice

Sat 11th Sep 3pm

Attendance: 9,793

Dundee United 3 Aberdeen 1

Three goals inside the opening ten minutes gained Dundee United their first win of the season at the expense of a shell-shocked Aberdeen at Tannadice.

However, Arabs goalkeeper Dusan Pernis needed to keep out Chris Maguire inside the first sixty seconds before Jon Daly slotted the home side in front two minutes later after David Goodwillie had seen his shot blocked.

Within three minutes the visitors fell further into arrears when their goalkeeper Mark Howard punched Craig Conway's corner into his own net as his colleagues claimed a foul.

Incredibly it became 3-0 on just nine minutes after Paul Hartley brought down Conway inside the area and Goodwillie claimed his first goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Daly then drove weakly at Howard as a fourth goal beckoned before Scott Vernon hooked into the top corner just before the half-hour to cut the deficit.

The Dons then saw their manager Mark McGhee dismissed to the stands for kicking the ball away before his keeper Howard was forced to save from both Goodwillie and debutant Scott Severin.

Garry Kenneth also had a header ruled out just before the break and Arabs keeper Pernis fended away from Peter Pawlett at close-range at the end of a very eventful opening half.

The follow-up period was always likely to be something of an anticlimax in comparison, although David Robertson blazed over from a Sean Dillon cross midway through the half and Goodwillie grazed an upright late on.

Meanwhile, Pernis was also called back into action at the opposite end when producing a good save from Hartley from the edge of the area.
