Dundee United 1 - Hibernian 0

Tannadice

Sat 30th Oct 3pm

Attendance: 7,377

Dundee United 1 Hibernian 0

Another late goal but thankfully this time Dundee United got it as David Goodwillie netted for the seventh time in nine games against Hibernian at Tannadice. But it also needed a crucial penalty save from home keeper Dusan Pernis to keep out John Rankin.

The Arabs actually went close midway through the first-half when Jon Daly's powerful header had to be cleared off the line by Rankin.

Home defender Garry Kenneth also struck a 35-yard effort wide before Morgaro Gomis' firm drive failed to cause too many problems for Hibs goalkeeper Mark Brown.

At the other end Derek Riordan dragged an attempt wide and also combined well with Edwin De Graaf until Pernis comfortably claimed in the home goal.

But it took a fine double save from opposite number Brown to thwart both Goodwillie and then Daly's follow-up header just before the break.

Tangerines striker Goodwillie lashed a rare opportunity wide after the interval before Prince Buaben's clumsy push on Galbraith inside the area appeared to offer Hibs the perfect chance to open the scoring.

However, Rankin saw his 67th minute penalty well saved by Pernis, and was left regretting that miss even more with just three minutes remaining as Goodwillie seized upon the recalled Danny Swanson's long through pass and slipped the winner under the keeper.
