Hamilton Academical 0 - Dundee United 1

Hamilton Academical 0 Dundee United 1

David Goodwillie put his recent troubles behind him to come off the bench and score the winner against Hamilton Academical at New Douglas Park.

The 21-year-old was earlier left out of the side after allegedly being involved in an early morning disturbance during the week. However, he still managed to claim his sixth goal in six games following his introduction midway through the second-half.

Marco Paixao crossed for Dougie Imrie to have an effort ruled out early on for the home side after the ball had already left the field of play. Scott Robertson then sliced wide for their opponents before Flavio Paixao drove over from the edge of the opposite area.

Danny Cadamarteri had been recalled for the Arabs and crossed for Prince Buaben to send an overhead kick narrowly wide ten minutes after the break.

Manager Peter Houston also named Johnny Russell in the starting eleven, and he threatened to get on the end of Paul Dixon's corner until unfortunately miskicking at the crucial moment.

But midway through the second period and with the scoreline still blank the Arabs restored both Jon Daly and Goodwillie into attack in an effort to find the winner.

And that arrived on 76 minutes when the home defence failed to clear following a Keith Watson cross and Goodwillie typically snapped up the chance.

Hamilton substitute Damian Casalinuovo then almost denied his former club the points when hitting the woodwork late on after being sent on for the final ten minutes.
