Dundee United 0 Ross County 0
Sat 8th Jan 3pm
Holders Dundee United must replay after being held by the side they defeated in last year's Scottish Cup final, Ross County, at Tannadice.
The hosts badly missed eleven-goal top scorer David Goodwillie who was out through suspension for what turned into a very disappointing display.
Defender Garry Kenneth did head a Barry Douglas free-kick straight at goalkeeper Michael McGovern before the break as the action proved distinctly uninspiring.
Morgaro Gomis also had an inviting cross cleared from under his own crossbar by on loan Celtic defender Jason Marr as the interval was reached with the scoreline remaining untroubled.
The visitors were first to show on the restart with Andy Barrowman seeing a shot-on-the-turn diverted wide by Dusan Pernis in the home goal.
Barrowman then stabbed in following a corner but there had been an earlier push on Pernis before the recalled Jon Daly struck a 20-yard effort at McGovern.
Manager Peter Houston made a double-change in attack that appeared to lift his side and Scott Robertson soon sliced wide after collecting from Prince Buaben.
Goalkeeper McGoven then denied Gomis' low strike before keeping out an ambitious long-range attempt from Paul Dixon and similarly blocking from Robertson from the subsequent corner.
Gomis also tried a half-volley which was again met by McGovern as the visitors held firm to secure themselves another chance.
