Holders Dundee United eventually squeezed past First Division Ross County on penalties in their Scottish Cup fourth round replay at Victoria Park. Reserve goalkeeper Steve Banks was their hero after saving a couple of spot-kicks during a very tense penalty shoot-out.
Banks was only in for the injured Dusan Pernis and he was tested twice during the opening stages of what turned into a rather dismal opening half.
His opposite number Michael McGovern then denied his former club when keeping out David Goodwillie before the visitors had to withdraw the limping Paul Dixon in favour of Barry Douglas.
Garry Kenneth was required to head away from close to the visitors' line after the break before McGovern managed to thwart both Jon Daly and David Goodwillie at the opposite end.
Tangerines veteran keeper Banks was then back in action to prevent both Andy Barrowman and Scott Morrison from breaking the deadlock.
He also rescued his side with the aid of the woodwork following later efforts from Richard Brittain and Martin Scott as the contest went into extra-time and in turn the dreaded penalties.
David Robertson missed the first penalty of the shoot-out but the visitors still won as Goodwillie took advantage of Banks' heroics and converted the vital spot-kick.
