Dundee United 3 Hibernian 0

Dundee United secured a comfortable win to move back into the top six and increase the pressure on Hibernian towards the foot of the table.

Skipper Jon Daly opened their account on thirteen minutes before Craig Conway added another early in the second-half. Substitute Johnny Russell completed the scoring nine minutes from time.

Manager Peter Houston was without the unavailable Morgaro Gomis but soon witnessed David Robertson volleying a Conway cross wide, while Liam Miller found the side-netting at the opposite end before Danny Galbraith hoisted over a Colin Nish knock-down.

The hosts then went ahead as David Robertson helped on a Barry Douglas delivery and Daly turned the ball into the net with the aid of the inside of an upright.

And it was Daly soon directing a header wide of the far post after Conway had supplied the cross, while Scott Robertson also narrowly missed from outside the area just before the break.

Following the restart top scorer David Goodwillie failed to add to the lead when lifting an attempt over before sending Conway away to drive into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.

Hibs' reply had David Wotherspoon despatching a shot straight at Dusan Pernis, while David Robertson drilled over at the other end before substitute Russell turned in Conway's cross at the second attempt after a couple of earlier blocks on the line.

Recent signing Matt Thornhill was then denied a late consolation when seeing his effort cleared away as the visitors slid to a fifth successive defeat.
