Dundee United couldn't be separated from their hosts St Johnstone after the two sides played out a rather uninspiring 0-0 draw at McDiarmid Park.
The Tangerines actually went close early on when Paul Dixon's cross was helped on by David Robertson for Johnny Russell to force Peter Enckelman into a sharp one-handed save.
Collin Samuel had been doubtful for the home side before the game, but he had already screwed an effort behind after Craig Conway's cross had slipped dangerously across goal at the opposite end.
Saints replied with Jamie Adams heading wide from Michael Duberry's cross and Dave MacKay having a shot blocked as the interval was reached still scoreless.
Following the break it was Sean Dillon heading over for the visitors after Conway had supplied the delivery.
But Dusan Pernis then had to make a great reaction save to keep out Murray Davidson, who was also denied as David Robertson cleared off the line.
Good work from top scorer David Goodwillie soon ended with home keeper Enckelman making another decent stop before holding onto a later strike from substitute Danny Swanson after Davidson had driven wide in reply.
