Dundee United 2 Hearts 0

Two late Johnny Russell goals moved Dundee United up into fourth place in the table after a deserved 2-0 triumph against Hearts at Tannadice.

Russell headed over goalkeeper Marian Kello from Keith Watson's cross to open the scoring with just seven minutes remaining before adding his second during injury-time following Paul Dixon's delivery.

After Ian Black had despatched an early shot straight at Dusan Pernis, it was Goodwillie soon heading a Watson cross over at the opposite end.

Hearts keeper Kello then snatched gratefully to avoid a potential own goal from Marius Zaliukas before Ryan Stevenson forced opposite number Pernis into action and David Templeton was also wide of the mark from distance.

However, it took a great save from Kello to deny Goodwillie as he turned over his volley before Hearts responded with Stephen Elliott hooking wide when well-placed.

Goodwillie then struck beyond the near post before Watson set up Russell to head in late on and send the hosts towards a fourth straight league victory.

And after the tricky Templeton had volleyed wide from a sharp angle in reply, the outcome was confirmed as Russell turned in his second of the evening during added time.
