Tangerines out of Europe

Dundee United's Europa League journey ended at the first hurdle despite a 3-2 victory over Slask Wroclaw at Tannadice.

Goals from Keith Watson, David Goodwillie and Jon Daly (pen) weren't enough as the Poles went through on away goals following a 3-3 draw overall.

The Taysiders couldn't have asked for a better start when completely turning the contest around inside the first five minutes in front of an 11,306 attendance.

Trailing 1-0 from the opening leg the hosts were back level after just two minutes with Watson crashing home from 15-yards following a Sean Dillon set up.

And three minutes later they went ahead in the tie as Goodwillie drove under the keeper after being found by Daly.

However, Rok Elsner guided in a 14th minute corner from Sebastian Mila to level things up before Sebastian Dudek, Elsner and Mila had chances to make the damage even worse.

But with half-time fast approaching goalkeeper Marian Keleman clumsily took down Goodwillie in the area and Daly converted from the penalty spot for a 3-2 aggregate lead.

Goalscorer Daly and summer recruit John Rankin were both wide of the target following the break - and they were made to pay as Dudek curled a terrific 25-yard finish into the top corner with just seventeen minutes remaining.

The Tangerines now simply had to find another goal and as they threw caution to the wind, Goodwillie went close before Daly drove over the crossbar in added time.
