Dundee United eased through their Scottish Communities League Cup tie at second division Airdrie United with goals from Ryan Dow and substitute Jon Daly.
On eleven minutes Dow seized upon a slip from Airdrie goalkeeper Paul McKane to claim his first goal for the club. It followed McKane failing to hold onto a Stuart Armstrong shot.
Skipper Daly then settled the issue from Paul Dixon's cross with fourteen minutes remaining to send the visitors through to the last eight of the competition.
Ryan Donnelly earlier drove narrowly wide for the hosts after Garry Kenneth misjudged a forward ball.
Diamonds keeper McKane later redeemed himself with a fine save from on loan striker Lauri Dalla Valle following a cross by Willo Flood.
But he was left helpless as Dixon chased down the left on 74 minutes and delivered for Daly to turn in a second goal.
