Terrors slip to home defeat

Dundee United crashed to a 3-1 home defeat to Motherwell despite another goal from skipper Jon Daly.

The hosts were behind as early as the fourteenth minute when Keith Lasley finished a cross from Tom Hateley.

Striker Daly had already forced an early save from Darren Randolph but it was Nicky Law and Chris Humphrey soon threatening more reward at the opposite end.

Tangerines boss Peter Houston responded with an early change and substitute Lauri Dalla Valle glanced a header through to Randolph.

But a wayward clearance from his opposite number Dusan Pernis then allowed Michael Higdon to increase the lead in first-half added time.

And Higdon later added another from the penalty spot following Gary Kenneth's 64th minute trip on Law.

It appeared over for the hosts but at least Gavin Gunning's powerful drive brought an excellent stop from Randolph.

They still grabbed a consolation with thirteen minutes remaining when Daly seized upon a rebound following a blocked Keith Watson effort.
