Terrors slide to another defeat

Dundee United slid to another disappointing 3-1 defeat, this time to Aberdeen at Pittodrie in a result which saw them overtaken by their latest opponents in the table.

The visitors found themselves three goals behind on the hour following strikes from Kari Arnason, Youl Mawene and Andrew Considine before on loan Lauri Dalla Valle gained them a late reply.

They had actually enjoyed a bright start with Johnny Russell forcing a fine early save from David Gonzalez on five minutes.

But when Fraser Fyvie's corner found Rory Fallon nine minutes later his downward header was blocked by keeper Dusan Pernis and Icelandic international Arnason snapped up the rebound.

Fallon almost added a second from another Fyvie cross on the half-hour before referee Willie Collum waved aside claims of a penalty after Danny Swanson looked to have been caught by Ryan Jack at the opposite end.

The incident was though sufficient for Swanson to be replaced by Dalla Valle just before the break, while Mawene soon extended the home lead after it when heading in after a free-kick from Ricky Foster.

And it wasn't long before Considine was helping himself to a third after the visitors failed to properly deal with a Rob Milsom free-kick delivery.

Dalla Valle did then knock in an assist from fellow substitute Gary Mackay-Steven with eleven minutes remaining but it proved nothing more than a consolation.
