There were certainly none of the remarkable scoring exploits from last week by Dundee United after they were held to a rather tame scoreless draw by St Mirren at Tannadice.
Following a bright start it was Stuart Armstrong prompting home calls for a penalty after a challenge by Jeroen Tesselaar inside the area while team-mate Jon Daly headed wide from Paul Dixon's cross.
Daly then almost latched onto Gavin Gunning's header across from another Dixon delivery before Johnny Russell was only halted by a timely challenge from Marc McAusland as the interval was reached with the scoreline still blank.
It didn't really look like changing following the restart until Buddies keeper Craig Samson turned over Russell's 22-yard effort while John Rankin later drove a Robbie Neilson cross over the bar.
For the visitors, substitute Nigel Hasselbaink couldn't manage to help in an assist from recent United target Douglas Imrie, who also went on to test home keeper Dusan Pernis with a low drive.
Dundee United: Pernis, Neilson, Dillon, Gunning, Dixon, Robertson, Rankin, Armstrong (Lacny 60), Mackay-Steven, Daly, Russell
