Tangerines end with another win
Sun 13th May 12.30pm
Dundee United finished off their season in style with Johnny Russell and Jon Daly both on target in a 2-0 win against Motherwell at Fir Park.
Russell opened the scoring as early as eight minutes before Daly settled the contest with a similar period of time remaining.
Motherwell keeper Darren Randolph had already twice denied Stuart Armstrong by the time Russell gave the visitors the lead from close-range.
The hosts then had Steven Hammell carried off after colliding with Danny Swanson before their opponents twice went close to extending their advantage.
First John Rankin found the outside of an upright from a narrow angle and then Paul Dixon's free-kick caught the top of the crossbar, while Michael Higdon headed Tom Hateley's cross wide in reply.
Manager Peter Houston withdrew the already cautioned Swanson after the break and his replacement Ryan Dow soon fired over before once again going close after Randolph had already kept out Daly.
Gary Mackay-Steven was next to come off the bench and drill inches wide and Scott Robertson then blazed over when being found inside the area by Russell.
Striker Russell later allowed Daly an easy tap in with just eight minutes remaining - which was still enough time for Mackay-Steven and Rankin to have further attempts.
