Terrors mauled in Moscow

Dundee United crashed to a heavy 5-0 defeat in their Europa League qualifier second-leg at Dynamo Moscow to go out of the competition 7-2 on aggregate.

The hosts struck three times before the break, with Igor Semshov beginning the rout as early as three minutes when despatching Marko Lomic's cross into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Russians were being overseen by caretaker manager Dmitri Khokhlov following Sergei Silkin's weekend departure. He soon witnessed Aleksandr Kokorin heading in another after good work from Balazs Dzsudzsak midway through the opening half.

Polish goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak then came to the rescue for the visitors with saves from Kokorin and Kevin Kuranyi, while the former also twice shot wide until setting up Artur Yusupov for a third five minutes before the break.

Willo Flood at least tested home keeper Roman Berezovsky from a free-kick while Johnny Russell shot wide early in the second period and Gary Mackay-Steven and Richie Ryan also cleared the target.

But substitute Aleksandr Sapeta added two more late goals as he beat Cierzniak from close-range on 83 minutes before lashing into the corner from far greater distance five minutes later.
