Dundee United 1 - St Johnstone 1

Tannadice

Early goal but wait continues

Dundee United failed to build upon an early Gavin Gunning goal as neighbours St Johnstone fought back for a 1-1 draw at Tannadice.

The Tangerines couldn't have asked for a better start with Gunning heading them in front with only a couple of minutes showing on the clock.

However, Brian McLean then conceded an own-goal at the start of the second-half to leave United still without a home win since August.

Defender Gunning was left unattended to help in an early Barry Douglas free-kick before Radoslaw Cierzniak twice denied Liam Craig as the visitors tried an immediate response.

But Gunning should have done better following another delivery into their area - this time from Willo Flood - while Saints keeper Alan Mannus claimed a Stuart Armstrong shot at the second attempt.

But his opposite number Cierzniak continued to be kept in the game with stops from Steven MacLean and Craig, until Rudi Skacel saw his reply fingertipped over the crossbar before Gunning headed wide.

However, Peter Pawlett's cross struck McLean and left Cierzniak helpless to equalise at the start of the second-half before the visitors nearly went in front as the Polish keeper blocked from Craig.

Murray Davidson also stabbed an opportunity wide while Gregory Tade was thwarted by Cierzniak late on - but only after John Rankin (twice) and substitute Mark Millar struck over, while Gunning saw another header cleared off the line.
