Rivals blank out each other

Dundee United fought out a scoreless draw with high-flying Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium.

But the visitors felt they were denied a winner when Jon Daly's 77th minute effort appeared to cross the line - although referee Brian Colvin didn't share the same view.

Aaron Doran was wide for the hosts following an early cross from Billy McKay while Nick Ross and Owain Tudur-Jones were similarly off-target.

Then after Daly nodded Willo Flood's delivery behind at the other end, McKay's header forced a first save from Radoslaw Cierzniak after more good work from Doran.

The visitors were clearly unhappy when Caley's Josh Meekings was cautioned for a 38th minute challenge that forced top scorer Johnny Russell to limp out of the action.

Andrew Shinne saw a volley turned behind by Cierzniak in the final minute of the opening half, and also had a couple more efforts saved upon the restart.

Meanwhile, Daly headed over a Flood free-kick in reply and Barry Douglas flashed a set-piece wide from distance.

The Tangerines thought they had found the winner though when John Rankin's shot from the edge of the box deflected off Daly and keeper Ryan Esson frantically tried to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

A flurry of late attempts also failed to bring them reward as both sides were in the end left frustrated.
