Tangerines move up to third

Dundee United made it seventeen goals in four games to move into third place in the Scottish Premiership.

Midfielder Stuart Armstrong gave them an early lead that was quickly cancelled out by Hearts' Jamie Hamill from the penalty spot.

However, Brian Graham headed in for the third successive game to restore the lead and Gary Mackay-Steven and John Rankin both scored during the last five minutes.

Ryan Gauld soon forced goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald into action from 25-yards before Mackay-Steven set-up Armstrong for the opening goal on sixteen minutes.

Moments after that Jamie Walker was tripped by Mark Wilson inside the area and Hamill calmly slotted in an equaliser from the penalty.

Home defender John Souttar and Graham both went close to restoring the home lead and Ryan Stevenson replied ahead of the interval.

Hearts keeper MacDonald turned aside from Rankin upon the restart before Graham headed in following a corner and with the visitors unsuccessfully claiming for a foul.

The Tangerines continued to look for more goals at the expense of the bottom club but were made to wait until Mackay-Steven curled in a third with five minutes remaining.

And there was still sufficient time left to increase their tally through Rankin's deflected effort just prior to the final whistle.
