Tangerines crash after another dismissal

Dundee United were reduced to ten-men for the second successive game as St Johnstone striker Stevie May scored a hat-trick in their 3-0 victory at McDiarmid Park.

Manager Jackie McNamara earlier made eight changes for the visitors but soon lost centre-back Calum Butcher for illegally denying a goal-scoring opportunity to May, who struck home the resultant twentieth-minute penalty.

Teenager John Souttar was immediately summonsed from the bench to replace striker David Goodwillie, but it was Andrew Robertson then clearing off the line from Murray Davidson and avoiding further damage.

Mark Wilson delivered a free-kick narrowly wide in reply before May added his second of the afternoon with a low 57th minute finish past Radoslaw Cierzniak.

The Tangerines tried to reply and Brian Graham headed over from six-yards, although substitute Nigel Hasselbaink could have added a third for the home side when shooting across goal.

That still arrived just before the end with May duly completing his hat-trick by expertly finishing Gwion Edwards' low cross.
