Late salvation for United
Sun 5th Jan 3.00pm
Substitutes David Goodwillie and Brian Graham scored late goals to prevent a fourth successive defeat for Dundee United against Hibernian at Tannadice.
Hibs skipper Liam Craig had added a penalty to his earlier first-half strike to leave his side appearing well in control after an hour.
But Graham set up on loan striker Goodwillie to reply with seven minutes remaining and those roles were then reversed in the final minute.
The visitors went close on fifteen minutes when James Collins' header was cleared off the line by John Rankin, while Nadir Ciftci replied at Ben Williams from 25-yards.
The Edinburgh side had a real escape as goalkeeper Williams pulled back Gary Mackay-Steven after leaving his line to make a miscued clearance. However, a raised offside flag meant he escaped serious punishment.
Hibernian went ahead when Paul Heffernan seized on a loose ball and allowed Craig to fire low into the far corner.
United then lost the services of striker Ciftci to a knock and Heffernan was only narrowly wide for the visitors after the break.
However, teenage defender John Souttar was ruled to have pushed Collins around the hour-mark and Craig duly added his second from the spot.
It took a sharp reflex action from Williams to keep out team-mate Paul Hanlon's touch to a Mackay-Steven cross before Goodwillie collected from Graham and pulled a goal back from close-range with seven minutes remaining.
And it was dramatically back level when Goodwillie's drive was helped in by Graham for his fourth goal of the season in the final minute.
