'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Inverness CT 1 - Dundee United 1

Caledonian Stadium

Sun 12th Jan 12.45pm

Attendance: 2,980

Honours shared at Caley

Both goals came inside the opening ten minutes as Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Caledonian Stadium.

Billy McKay earned the hosts the lead through a close-range strike that was swiftly cancelled out by Keith Watson's third goal in five games.

But the visitors were indebted to goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak's penalty save from Nick Ross after United striker Brian Graham had already hit an upright.

Tangerines midfielder Chris Erskine was similarly denied by the inside of a post as the visitors' winless sequence was stretched to five games.

Manager Jackie McNamara had wanted his side to maintain the momentum from their recent late recovery against Hibernian, but it was their opponents soon going in front via McKay's eighteenth goal of the season after a corner was headed on.

Even so the visitors were back level just five minutes later with Watson heading in Gary Mackay-Steven's corner delivery.

Former Raith Rovers striker Graham would then have added another but for the woodwork after a John Rankin effort had been charged down.

Meanwhile, a defensive slip at the other end from John Souttar let in McKay to send a low angled drive at Cierzniak, who next stretched high to keep out McKay's header from an Aaron Doran cross.

Latest signing Farid El-Alagui was introduced from the bench by the visitors early in the second-half after Graham had suffered a knock to his ankle.

However, Gary Warren went close to restoring the home lead before Thistle keeper Dean Brill had to race back to clear from near to his line after missing a routine Graeme Shinnie back-pass.

Caley had a great opportunity to go back in front when Souttar brought down Shinne but Cierzniak denied Ross' 63rd minute penalty.

Midfielder Erskine then struck a post in reply and the break of Mackay-Steven was only just halted by Warren as the visitors pressed for victory.
