Tangerines progress through
Sun 9th Feb 12.00pm
Dundee United made it through to the last eight of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 victory against St Mirren at Tannadice.
Highly-rated teenager Ryan Gauld gave them an early advantage midway through the opening half that was swiftly cancelled out by Kenny McLean's penalty.
However, Nadir Ciftci headed in a Gary Mackay-Steven cross shortly after the break for what proved the winner.
Former United front-runner Steven Thompson volleyed early at Radoslaw Cierzniak while Stuart Armstrong called Marian Kello into action at the other end.
And it was the hosts soon forging ahead when Ciftci delivered for Gauld to provide the decisive finish.
But their lead lasted only five minutes after Mark Wilson brought down McLean, who promptly levelled from the spot.
Back came their opponents and Mackay-Steven forced a fine stop from Kello on the volley while Ciftci's header from an Armstrong cross was also kept out.
Ciftci wasn't to be denied though when nodding in Mackay-Steven's 51st minute delivery while Kello later tipped over from Gauld.
His opposite number Cierzniak then had to be alert to keep out a Thompson header from substitute Gary Teale's free-kick.
Darren McGregor also struck wide for the visitors before Kello parried from home substitute Ryan Dow.
The Tangerines now travel to either Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Stranraer in the quarter-finals.
