Tangerines close the gap

Dundee United closed the gap on second place to four points with a 2-1 victory over bottom club Hearts at Tynecastle.

The visitors led after Brian Graham converted Andrew Robertson's cross ten minutes before the break. Nadir Ciftci then curled in an excellent second with twenty minutes remaining, only for Danny Wilson to reply.

Both John Rankin and Robertson tried speculative early efforts for the visitors but were comfortably wide of the mark in the wet conditions.

Kevin McHattie did better at the other end when forcing Radoslaw Cierzniak to react before Dale Carrick also threatened inside the area.

However, it was the visitors going in front as Ryan Dow swept past a couple of opponents and allowed Robertson to set-up Graham for a side-footed finish.

Callum Paterson headed over for the hosts and Ryan Stevenson picked out only the side-netting, while Robertson forced a decent stop from Hearts keeper Jamie MacDonald following the interval.

Graham was then incorrectly called back for offside and Stuart Armstrong was denied by MacDonald, until Ciftci received from Dow and evaded markers before curling in a second goal.

Hearts continued to battle well and were rewarded when Wilson headed in Sam Nicholson's corner with twelve minutes remaining - but that was all they were to be allowed.
