Five-up for United

Dundee United returned to form to hammer top-three rivals Motherwell in a 5-1 romp at Tannadice.

Nadir Ciftci scored twice and Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Dow and Brian Graham were also on target against a late Lionel Ainsworth consolation.

Armstrong set up the opener for Ciftci as he fired into the top corner on eight minutes. The Turkish striker then produced a fine stop from goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen when again linking with Armstrong.

Neilson next denied Gary Mackay-Steven's low drive before Armstrong delivered for Ciftci to double the lead just ahead of the break.

Keith Lasley blazed over for the visitors following the interval but it was Armstrong soon drilling in goal number three from Dow's clever assist.

Ciftci almost marked his hat-trick as Neilsen stuck out a hand to turn his effort onto a post before Gavin Gunning's searching pass found the unmarked Dow finishing into the corner.

Substitute Graham then calmly helped himself to a fifth goal with nine minutes remaining while Ainsworth struck a late consolation from the edge of the area just before the end.
