Dundee United moved into third place in the table with a narrow victory against Dunfermline Athletic at Tannadice.

The decisive moment arrived on the half-hour when Danish striker Thomas Mikkelsen took advantage of decent work by fellow forward Simon Murray.

Michael Moffat had threatened early for the visitors through a header while Mikkelsen was near to getting on the end of Blair Spittal's delivery.

More progressive play, this time from Tony Andreu, then found Murray twice going close before Moffat wasted a glorious chance from Rhys McCabe's set-up.

However, moments later Murray allowed Mikkelsen to slot in his sixth goal since arriving on loan from OB Odense.

The Tangerines could have had more with goalkeeper Sean Murdoch coming out to thwart Andreu, who then struck the woodwork from around twenty-five yards.

Dutch substitute Nick Van Der Velden should then really have wrapped it up in the final minute from another Andreu assist, only to fire straight at the keeper.
