Dundee United 1 Brechin City 0
Sat 19th Aug 3.00pm
Striker Scott McDonald scored a vital late winner to keep Dundee United firmly setting the pace at the top of the Championship.
The Tangerines included Scott Fraser for the suspended Paul McMullan and his curled effort after moving inside was denied by goalkeeper Graeme Smith.
Both James Keatings and McDonald also threatened for hosts seeking a third consecutive league victory having previously accounted for Inverness CT and Queen of the South.
The visitors were then close to opening their account as Mark Durnan deflected onto the woodwork, while on loan keeper Harry Lewis turned over from Jordan Sinclair following the interval.
However, experienced front-runner McDonald finally struck the winner from close-range after Billy King had provided the assist with ten minutes remaining.
But there was still a late scare for the home crowd when Sean Crighton hooked over from the edge of the area.
