Dundee United have kept their unbeaten home record intact, after managing to see off Rangers with a 2-1 victory at Tannadice.
Defender Lee Wilkie gave United a 1-0 lead in the first half, after evading his marker to get onto the end of Willo Flood free-kick.
Just after the break Rangers won a dubious penalty after DaMarcus Beasley went down very easily inside the penalty box after a challenge from Christian Kalvenes, with Daniel Cousin equalising from the resultant spot kick in the 51st minute.
However, United`s lead was restored just 2 minutes later, when Carlos Cuellar was penalised for pulling down Jordon Robertson inside the box.
Captain Barry Robson stepped up to cheekily fire the penalty kick into the middle of Allan McGregor`s goal, to make it 2-1.
The final 2-1 score line flattered a lack lustred Rangers, who were dominated in the midfield and rarely had a shot on goal.
United keeper Euan McLean had some big shoes to fill, after being thrown into the deep end as a replacement for the suspended Szamotulski, but had very little to do for most of the 90minutes.
Morgaro Gomis, Prince Bauben and Willo Flood harassed the visiting midfield, not giving them much time on the ball and winning more than their fair share of 50-50 balls in the middle of the park.
The result means United sit joint 2nd in the SPL, equal with Rangers on 22 points, just 3 behind league leaders Celtic after 11 games gone.
The only disappointing aspect of the match for Craig Levein will be losing the impressive record of almost 10 hours without conceding a league goal at Tannadice.
Daniel Cousin`s penalty hit the back of the net 9 hours and 54 minutes after Kirk Broadfoot scored for Saint Mirren in a 2-0 SPL win last season.
